Why do you use soy wax?

-

Do you use essential oils in your candles?

- The short answer is... no. However, it’s more nuanced than choosing between synthetic and natural-based products. As a brand that’s trying to be as environmentally conscious as possible, it was important that we created safe candles for the environment, but most importantly... you. Click here to read more about why essential oils wasn't the right choice for CarteHaus.

Are your candles considered clean?

-

Do your candles contain phthalates?

- Even though DEP (Diethyl Phthalate) is considered safe by multiple regulatory bodies, we’ve chosen to use phthalate-free fragrance oils.

Why? Because while the science says DEP is safe, the sentiment around phthalates can make people uneasy, and your candle ritual should be about unwinding, not overthinking what’s in your wax. Read this journal entry to learn more about phthalates

Are your candles lead-free?

- Absolutely. Fun fact: lead wicks have been officially banned in the United States since 2003.

Can I light just 1 wick at a time to make the candle last longer?

-

Can I use your candles as a massage candle?

- No, are candles are not considered safe for use on the skin. The wax can get too hot (could cause serious burns), and the percentage of fragrance used is higher than the IFRA recommended levels for use on the skin.

Can I send back my empty vessel to be refilled after I burn it?

- Sadly, no. We are sticklers for safety first, and refilling a used container is a high risk for a candle to crack (or even potentially explode). However, we are working on a solution for a more sustainable (while still safe) way to reduce waste of all those empty containers. Click here to learn more about our patent-pending solution.
