Spring Refresh with Simple and Sustainable Swaps

There’s just something about spring that makes us want to hit the reset button and start fresh. I want to open my windows and let the sun and fresh, crisp air pour in. This invites a need to refresh my space, routine, wardrobe, everything. I mean, they call it spring cleaning for a reason, right? It’s definitely tempting to start from scratch, and there’s a Pinterest board full of inspo waiting to be turned into a shopping cart.

But, what if this refresh didn’t come with more stuff? What if it came from a more intentional place?

This season, we want to propose something new. Instead of a full decor overhaul, think of your refresh as a recalibration with small shifts that change how your space feels without adding more and more clutter. We’re thinking less waste, less spending, and honestly, a whole lot less pressure. Doesn’t that sound refreshing?

Here are a few of our recommendations:

Scent Reset

Scent is the most underrated way to transform the vibe of a space. It is invisible, but the effect is instant and deeply tied to your mood.

In winter, we lean into warm and cozy aromas like woods, smoke, spice, and sweets. These enveloping scents that feel like a blanket. But spring calls for something lighter and cleaner.

Swap your cozy winter scents for soft florals, fresh greens, and delicate tea notes that match the brightness in the exterior. This is a subtle shift, but it completely changes the vibe of your space.

If you’re not sure where to start, start with our Spring Collection (we even have a votive sampler set so you can try them all!). This is a selection of three scents created to bring that fresh, just-opened-the-windows feeling into your home.

Pillow-cover Switch-Up

Before you go out and buy a new set of pillows, take a look at what you already have. Most throw pillows come with removable covers, which means you don’t need a whole new set, just a new layer. Swapping pillow-covers is one of the easiest ways to refresh a room without adding bulk (or clutter) to your storage.

For spring, lighter fabrics make all the difference. Think linen, cotton, and anything with a bit of texture but still feels breathable. Color-wise, this is where you can soften things. Washed neutrals, pale sage, muted blush, soft ivory. Shades that bring light instead of absorbing it.

This is a small change that can shift the entire tone of your space.

And, if you can, consider sourcing from smaller makers.

Rearrange before you replace

Let’s be honest… Most of us don’t need more things. We just need to see what we already have a little differently. Clutter builds quietly, and before you know it, pieces you once loved start to feel overstimulating.

Why not start by editing and rearranging?

Move artwork into a different room. Restyle your shelves. Shift a lamp to a different corner. Even swapping out small objects like books, ceramics, knick-knacks, can create a sense of newness without bringing anything new in.

You may realize you already have everything you need.

And for the pieces that no longer bring you joy? Keep reading, we have a plan for those.

Host a Swap Night

There’s a good chance you have pieces you no longer reach for, but they’re still in great condition. They live in that in-between space: too good to throw away, but not quite you anymore, so they just sit there taking up room.

Instead of letting them collect dust (or tossing them during a deep-clean frenzy), bring other people into it.

A swap night is exactly what it sounds like. Friends bring items they’re ready to part with. Things like accessories, home decor, fragrance, even books, and trade with each other. This is a fantastic way to give things a second life. It’s sustainable, fun, and surprisingly refreshing.

You leave with something new-to-you, without contributing to more production or waste. And just as importantly, you get to let go of what no longer fits your life.

Pro tip: keep it size-inclusive and open so everyone has a chance to find something they love.

A different kind of spring clean

Your spring refresh can still give you that same dopamine hit—just without the extra cost, clutter, or waste. It can be more intentional, more considered. Because yes, there’s real value in refreshing your space. It helps you feel lighter, more inspired, a little re-energized.

We’re not against that feeling; we’re just suggesting a different way to get there.

Think of it through a more sustainable lens. Start with what you already have, and layer in small shifts like fresh scents, lighter textures, subtle changes that make everything feel new again.

At the end of the day, we don’t always want new things like we think we might; we just want the feeling of new.

If you’re craving a reset but don’t have the energy (or desire) to do something big, keep it simple. Light a fresh candle. Open a window. Move a few things around.

As the conversation shifts towards minimalism and we all become more aware of our consumption habits, we want to make it a little easier for you to make small sustainable changes without fully giving up the things that bring you joy. We’ve been working behind the scenes to produce a reusable candle vessel to make your candle-burning habit less wasteful and just as indulgent. This patent-pending innovation is coming soon.
